Review:
This is another brilliant contribution of photography from award winning photographer Nick Rains. The photos are such good quality that the reader almost feels like they are experiencing the places first hand. Once again the format of this book would appeal to those who find reading lots of text very hard. Apart from there being text at the introduction of each section and then a short description of what the photo is depicting there is no other text to read. This book would also appeal to those who just want to look at photos and not be bothered with doing a lot of reading.
There are many instances of double page spreads of photos throughout this book. It is pretty clear that Rains wants the photos to speak for themselves rather than include lots of text – which he manages to achieve very well.
I was particularly impressed with the photo he chose to include for Western Australia. WA is known for its rugged and very red mountains and the photo Rains included here captures that spectacularly. The photo was of the Mitchell Falls in the Kimberley. I could look at this one photo for ages. The ragged cliff edges are so well defined it does something to the heart strings.
Recommend for: Anyone interested in photography (young and adult alike)
